Uganda Finance Minister Matia Kasaija announced that social media tax will help improve national security by increasing domestic revenue. "We want to strengthen the security of the country and make electricity supply possible to more and more people so that citizens can enjoy and use social media," he said.
Social media tax will take place on every mobile phone user that uses different social media platforms like Whats app, Twitter and Facebook etc. and they will pay 200 Uganda shelling daily. How this tax will be received still it is not clear, apparently it is a very complicated task to monitor every app which will be use by more then 2 million users of Uganda.
Accordingly, this announcement is not surprising for Uganda. because the government of Uganda banned social media during the election. The country has its social media in the past There has also been announcement of formatting of late forms, while promised to purchase Porn Content Holding Machine, however, these two announcements could not be processed yet.
